Obituaries

ADELINA M. FINELLI

                Adelina M. (Bozarth) Finelli, 85, widow of Vito M. Finelli, of East Greenville, died on Sunday, January 31, 2010 in The Lehigh Center, Macungie.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Thomas H. and Adeline (Casci) Bozarth.

She was employed as a hairdresser for 11 years with Lynn’s Hairdressing in East Greenville until it closed in 1972.

Adelina was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Bally. She was a Troop Leader for Girl Scout Troop #13 for eight years, a member of the Perkiomen Valley Woman’s Club and the Upper Perkiomen Senior Center and also was a member of a women’s painting group from Old Plains Road, specializing in oil paintings of still life and landscape portraits.

Surviving are a daughter, Lynn Marie Finelli, wife of James A. Horton, of New Tripoli; two brothers, Joseph Bozarth, of Woodlyn, and Paul Bozarth, of West Chester; and a sister, Gloria Kindon, of Clinton, New York.  Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Miller, and a brother, Thomas H. Bozarth, Jr.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 610 Pine St, Bally, with Msgr. Edward J. Coyle officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville and also 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to leaving for the funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in her memory to Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, P O Box C, Bally, PA 19503.

 

THOMAS L. HEALY

               Thomas L. Healy, 69, of Pennsburg, died peacefully on January 20, 2010 in Grand View Hospital, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.  He was the husband of Diana (Fuehrer) Healy.  They were married 48 years last November.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Thomas A. and Mary (Davis) Healy.

He was a lineman for Philadelphia Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1991.  Tom loved to ride his Harley and he was an avid Flyers fan.

Survivors include his wife; daughters: Dana Healy, of Green Lane, Traci and her husband, Fritz Haas, of Drexel Hill; brothers: Paul, of Perkasie and Robert, of Quakertown; sisters: Mary Dietz, of Maryland and Kathleen Stiles, of King of Prussia; and grandchildren Danielle, Nick and Dillon.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara.

A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, 163 Main Street, Pennsburg.  Graveside services will follow at Valley Forge Memorial Garden, King of Prussia.

WILLIAM WALKER

William S. Walker, 91, of Green Lane, died January 23, 2010.  He was the husband of the late Winifred (Haring) Walker.  Born in Perkiomenville, he was a son of the late Henry and Louise (Scholl) Walker.

He and his wife were co-owners of the former Bill’s Auto Service, Perkiomenville, in the 50’s and 60’s.  He was a member of Peace in Zion United Church of Christ.  He was a member of the Perkiomen Lodge #595, F&AM, Red Hill; a life member of the Owl’s Nest, East Greenville, and a member of the Green Lane Fire Company. 

Surviving are daughters, Nancy Blackner, of Johnstown, and F. Elizabeth Hunsberger, of Green Lane; seven grandchildren, including William, and his wife Wanda, of Green Lane, and John, and his wife, Michelle, of Applebachsville; 13 great-grandchildren, including Travis, Jessica, Sarah, Amanda, and Austin Hunsberger; and two great-great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by siblings, Jonas, Harvey, Mahlon, Fritz, Florence, Elizabeth, Elsie and Dorothy.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Peace In Zion United Church of Christ, 204 Route 73, Zieglerville.  A viewing was held from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., with a Masonic Service at 10:30 a.m., all at the church.  Interment followed at Limerick Garden of Memories.

HERBERT L. CULP

                Herbert L. Culp, 82, of Magazine Road, Green Lane, died January 21, 2010 at Grand View Hospital.  He was the husband of M. Arlene (Nace) Culp.  They were married 56 years last February.

                Born in Lansdale, he was a son of the late Otto Culp and the late Helen (Gaugler) Jernigan.  He was raised by his grandparents, the late Willoughby and Emma (Batzel) Gaugler.

He was employed at the former Firestone Tire Co., Pottstown, for 34 years, retiring as a foreman in 1980.  Prior to that, he was a storekeeper, third class, with the United States Coast Guard.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sumneytown, and was a life member of Green Lane Fire Company.

Survivors include his wife, nephew, and nieces.  He was predeceased by his son, H. Randy Culp on November 21, 2009, and his brother, Robert L. Culp, in 2003.

Services will be private.  The Falk Funeral Home & Crematory, Pennsburg is in charge of arrangements.

CLAUDE WOLF

Claude Wolf of Pennsburg passed away at the Pennsburg Manor on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. He was 92.

Born in Milford Township, he was the son of the late Josiah and Ella (Heimbach) Wolf. He was married to the late Martha M. (Miller) Wolf who predeceased him in 1986.

Mr. Wolf was a WWII Army Veteran and retired from the Coopersburg Handle Factory in 1981 after 38 years. He is survived by two sisters: Laura Piston, wife of Merrill Piston, of Red Hill, and Carrie Eppler, wife of Wilford Eppler, of Hereford; and several nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by two brothers, Irwin and Charles Wolf; three sisters: Verna Leister, Edna Cressman and Viola Mest; and companion Ruth Jean Trumbore.

A funeral service was held on Monday, January 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Monaghan Funeral Home, 612 Main St. Red Hill, Pa 18076.  Friends and family called from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Interment followed in Trinity Great Swamp UCC Cemetery, 9150 Spinnerstown Rd., Spinnerstown. 

 

Vera G. Pflieger

Vera G. (Harley) Pflieger, 91, formerly of Pennsburg, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Mosser Nursing Home in Trexlertown. She was the widow of Dr. Linwood Pflieger who passed away in 1996.

Born in East Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Ellen (Hillegas) Harley. Vera was a graduate of Ursinus College. She spent her life as a homemaker caring for her family.

Surviving are daughters: Bonnie Lynn, wife of Thomas Spicer, of Cherokee, Iowa, Jane Ellen, wife of Dean Wetherhold, of Macungie; a sister, Rita Walker, of Frederick; five grandchildren: Heather, Barbara, Christopher, Eric, and Megan; and nine great-grandchildren: Bailey, Alyssa, Jamie, Logan, Christian, Michael, Isis, Mason, and Erica.  A grandson, Matthew, predeceased her. 

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, at New Goshenhoppen U.C.C. Cemetery.  Arrangements are being handled by Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, 163 Main Street, Pennsburg.  For information or for online condolences visit www.falkfuneralhomes.com.

William P. Gebhard

William P. Gebhard, Sr., 86, of Pennsburg, passed away on Thurs. January 7, 2010 at his residence. Born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey he was the son of the late Walter and Grace (Etter) Gebhard.

He was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School, class of 1942. He attended Bordentown Military Academy on a football scholarship and later graduated from the University of Miami in Florida.

William retired as a field security officer for Manufacturers Hanover Consumer Services, Inc. He also opened and operated the former Ritter Loan Co. located in Pennsburg. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient during the Battle of Tinian.

He is survived by his three children: William (Diane) Gedbhard, Jr., of Flippin, Arizona, Doris Anne (Jay) Zingley, of Macungie, and Richard W. Gebhard, of Perkiomenville; former daughter-in-law, Patty Gebhard, of Green Lane, and seven grandchildren.

He will be laid to rest at Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery. Services and interment are private.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the many friends and neighbors for their acts of kindness and support over the years.
