Obituaries

                Jacqueline H. “Jackie” (Henry) Gery, wife of Robert C. Gery, of East Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville, Maryland.  She and her husband celebrated 53 years of marriage in March.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Esther (Moore) Henry.

She was a registered nurse and a graduate of Geisinger Nursing School. Jackie spent her entire career in long-term care, becoming a nursing home administrator in the years preceding her retirement in 1996.

Upon returning to the East Greenville area, she became a member of a wonderful church family at New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, becoming active as a deacon, serving and supporting her church family and community.   She also was a member of the Perkiomen Chapter #318, Order of the Eastern Star and the Corinthian Court #35, Order of the Amaranth.

Jackie is survived by her loving husband, Bob, a daughter, Judy G. Chambers, and husband, Jim, of Germantown, Maryland; a son, Robert B. Gery, and wife, Laura J., of Smithsburg, Maryland, and four adored grandchildren: Kim and Ben Chambers and Bobby and Dan Gery.  She is predeceased by an infant son, Paul B. Gery.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, 1070 Church Road, East Greenville, with the Rev. Dr. Deborah Rahn Clemens officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.   A viewing was held Sunday evening at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville and again Monday morning at the church.

                Barry Dale Schirk, 64, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 4, 2010 in West Palm Beach, Florida.  Formerly of Douglassville, he was a son of the late Harold and Grace E. (Faut) Schirk. 

He was an Air Force veteran and served in Vietnam.  Prior to his retirement he was an airplane mechanic for Delta Air Lines.

He is survived by brothers, Alan G. Schirk of New Ringgold, and Lonnie R. Schirk of Birdsboro; a niece, Dana L. (Schirk) Miller of Royersford; a nephew, TSgt Scott M. Schirk, serving in the Air Force at Tyndall AFB, Florida; one great-nephew; and three great-nieces.

Relatives and friends are invited to the graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, 1244 St. Paul’s Church Rd., Pennsburg.

John “Cal” Calvin Young, 84, husband of Phyllis J. (Miller) Young, of Pennsburg, died Thursday at Valley Manor Nursing Home, Coopersburg. He and his wife celebrated 57 years of marriage on May 23, 2010.

Born in Pennsburg, he was a son of the late Osbourne and Rebecca (Frye) Young.

He was a sheet metal operator for Mack Trucks, Allentown for 17 years, retiring in 1986; he previously worked for O.F. Young and Son’s Coal and Fuel Oil for many years and for several years at Reading Railroad.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II.

He was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and was a member of Pennsburg Fire Company.

Surviving along with his wife are a daughter, Charlotte A. Moser, and husband, Paul, of Zionsville; a brother, Donald Young and wife, Elaine, of Quakertown; four sisters: Mildred Culhane, of Pennsburg, Harriet Bowman, of East Greenville, Bernice Craggs, and husband, Nick, of Churchville, and Anna Franzone ,and husband, Joseph, of Norristown and three grandchildren: Joshua, Andrew and Nathan Moser.

Along with his parents, he is predeceased by siblings; Norman Young, Ruth Klebe, Jane Estenes, Mary Krause, and Dorothy Shupe Bytheway.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St. East Greenville with Rev. Charles E Romanowski officiating. Interment followed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Pennsburg. Edward F. Tercha, 86, of North Church Street, Bally, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 in his residence.

Born in Longswamp Township, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Fryz) Tercha.

He was a molder for March & Brownback, Pottstown for 20 years and later worked for Unicast as a molder for 30 years until his retirement. He was a private first class in the Marine Corps during WWII.  Edward was a loving father and pappy, an avid Civil War buff and his favorite place to visit was Gettysburg. Edward was a great cook, especially baking “cheesecake.”

He is survived by a son, Michael D., husband of Lyn Tercha, of Bethlehem; four daughters: Barbara (Tercha) Ansfree, of Fogelsville, Beverly R. (Tercha), widow of Dennis Stoudt, of Bally, Collette J. (Tercha), wife of Robert Stitt, of Bally, and Renee J.A. (Tercha), wife of Roger Hendricks, Jr., of New Berlinville; a brother, Frank Tercha, of Fogelsville; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc., 111 North Reading Avenue, Boyertown.  Reverend Chris Stein officiated.

Relatives and friends will be received between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
