Marvin L. Marks Jr.
2013-04-11

Marvin L. Marks Jr., 89, of East Greenville, passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2013.

He was the beloved husband of Joan (Bieler) Marks.  He was the son of the late Marvin and Viola (Greenwood) Marks.
He served his country honorably as a sergeant in the Army Air Corp where he was an airplane electrical mechanic.  He also played the clarinet in a jazz band called the “Sultans of Swing” while in the service.  Affectionately known as “Smiley” or “Mort,” he followed in his father’s footsteps and was the owner and mechanic at the former Smiley’s Garage in East Greenville for 50 years before retiring and closing the business in 1996. He was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pennsburg.  Smiley was an avid outdoorsman and loved deep sea fishing, hunting and he was an expert skier.  He also played the clarinet in several local town bands.
Surviving with his wife, is a daughter, Bonadeen, wife of Douglas Thompson, of Virginia; a son, Robert, and his wife Tina, of Red Hill, a stepdaughter, Charmaine, wife of James Krauss, of Zionsville; grandchildren: Grant, Kelly, Michael, Scott, and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren: Gavin, Tesa, Ben, Sam, and Kinsey, and a sister, Violet Bartholomew, of East Greenville.
Services will be held privately.  His arrangements have been entrusted to Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pennsburg.
Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Mark’s Church, 81 N. Main St., Pennsburg, PA 18073.  To offer on-line condolences, please visit www.falkfuneralhomes.com.
