Ralph J. Benfield

Ralph J. “Benny” Benfield, 81, of Bechtelsville, died January 23, 2013 at home. He was the husband of the late Elaine (Kline) Benfield.

Born in Bally, he was a son of the late Warren and Anna (Masemore) Benfield.

He was a mechanic, first working for Bally Case & Cooler, and then Snyder & Kurtz, Pennsburg. He worked for Ryder Truck, Pennsburg, from which he retired. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Bally, and was a former fire chief for the Pennsburg Fire Company. He loved every moment spent and everyone he met in Sullivan County.

Surviving are children: Luanne Stetler and her companion, John Fisher Jr., of Gilbertsville; Peggie Benfield, and her companion, Ken Shafer, of Pennsburg; Michael Benfield, and his wife, Barb, of Gilbertsville; and Julie, wife of Tony Jeffers, of Bechtelsville; siblings: Mary Ann Melcher, of Bally and Thomas Benfield; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Esther Koch, a son, Ralph Jr. and a grandson, Derrick Brokenbough-Shafer.
