Raymond C. Shewell
Raymond C. Shewell, age 87, of Muncy Valley, passed away on early Tuesday morning, January 15, 2013 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda.
Raymond was born February 11, 1925 in Earlington, a son of the late George H. Shewell Sr. and Myrtle Snyder.
He graduated from East Greenville High School and also graduated from the Great Lakes Naval Radio School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the European Theater and in the Philippines in the Pacific Theater. He worked in manufacturing as a tool dye maker for West Company in Phoenixville.
He was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, and was also a member of the Sonestown American Legion Post # 601. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Since the age of 14 he would always travel to Sullivan County to hunt and in 1993 he and his wife Billie Ann retired to Muncy Valley.
Surviving are his wife, Billie Ann (Breisch) Shewell at home; two daughters, Cindy Dhiaparan, of Phoenixville, and Joanne Noyles and her husband Chris of Eagle River, Alaska; a stepson, Jeffrey David Kerns and his wife Carol, of Northampton; several grandchildren and one great-grandson, Jacob Kerns; two brothers, George H. Shewell Jr. of Pennsburg, and Thomas H. Shewell Jr., and his wife Jackie of Perkiomenville, PA; a sister, Peggy Shewell Duklis and her husband Peter, of Pennsburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents and a son, Michael Shewell, of New York City, in 2011.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family will provide the flowers and request that memorial contributions be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, NE Region, 63 North Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18701, in Raymond C. Shewell’s memory.
