A pair of men reach into the cash drawer at CVS Pharmacy on Pottstown Avenue in Pennsburg as they rob the store on Friday afternoon. Police have identified the pair and expect an arrest in the next few weeks.
Two suspects have been identified in a bold midday robbery Friday at CVS, 290 Pottstown Avenue, Pennsburg.
Upper Perk Police Det. Matthew Boaman said Wednesday authorities have now identified one of the two suspects and fingerprints taken at the scene are being analyzed by the state police crime lab this week. The second robbery suspect was identified as a known associate. Police said the pair committed similar robberies in at least one other state.
Police are not releasing the identities of the robbers until the remainder of the evidence is analyzed at the lab. They did say, however, that should take approximately seven to 10 days and the suspects will be named soon after.
Since the case involves out-of-state agencies, Upper Perk will be working with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete.
According to Upper Perk Police, two men approached the counter around 3:25 p.m., amid a busy day at the store, and handed the 18-year-old female cashier a note demanding cash. Police said the note stated the pair was armed and would shoot if they didn’t get what they wanted.
Authorities said while no weapon was displayed, the cashier complied with the robbers’ orders. She reportedly opened the cash drawer and both of the robbers reached over and removed the cash directly from the drawer.
The pair then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A direction of travel or a description of the suspects’ vehicle was not being released by Upper Perk Police.
The two suspects are described as white males, one with an average build, one with a thin build, wearing black t-shirts and predominantly white baseball hats. Both men were captured on surveillance footage at the time of the robbery.
No injuries were reported. Police said CVS employees have been cooperating with police and provided statements following the crime. The store was closed for approximately 1 ½ hours for an investigation.
“We are grateful no one was injured and we are cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation of this incident,” said Mike DeAngelis, public relations director for CVSCaremark on the robbery.
