Roderick (Rod) Wood, 67, former publisher of the Town and Country newspaper, passed away at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia yesterday morning.
Wood and his wife, Wendy, now deceased, started the Hearthstone Press in 1995. In an earlier article, Rod said, “I had the idea in my head for a long time … I thought we could do something different than the Town and Country newspaper was doing back then.”
On May 1, 1997, Wood purchased the Town and Country newspaper from Gannett publishing and combined the two publications under the banner of The Hearthstone Town and Country.
After retiring in 2006, Wood continued to write opinion pieces and do freelance reporting for the newspaper.
Wood was a graduate of Perkiomen School (1963) in Pennsburg and Trinity College, Hartford, CT. in 1967.
He is survived by his wife, Lusandre, son, Ian, brother, Harry, and his wife, Linda, and niece, Sara. An obituary will appear in next week’s edition.
