An Easton man, found dead in the reservoir at the Hill Road day use area of Green Lane Park, officially drowned, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday. The freshwater drowning was ruled accidental by County Coroner Walter I. Hofman.
Authorities at the scene Thursday speculated that a steep drop-off about five feet into the water from the bank may have spelled trouble for the victim, whose fishing gear was found nearby.
State police said they were called to the park Sept. 2 around 7:46 a.m. for an unattended vehicle which was parked overnight in the lot at the location. Troopers reportedly conducted an investigation at the scene with Telford Diving Unit.
State police said personnel from the diving unit recovered the body of a man, identified as Bernard Jaruga, 46, around 2:40 p.m. from the reservoir.
Green Lane park rangers and Red Hill Fire Company assisted at the scene.
An investigation in the case is still ongoing, state police said Wednesday.
