On July 11-14, Upper Perk Middle School cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleading Association Cheer Camp that was held at Cedar Crest College.
Gabrielle Martin, Brianna Seville, Caelyn Diehl, Ashley Hiller, Taylor Leidy, Brianna McDermott, Kathryn Needs and Hannah O’Donnell had a very busy schedule learning many new cheers, chants, dances, stunts and other activities. At the end of the first day at camp, the girls were given the spirit stick for the day. On the second day of camp, the girls had their first evaluation of a long cheer and a chant. They earned a red ribbon for the chant and a blue "superior" ribbon for the long cheer.
The team’s final performances on Saturday, July 14 proved to be their best when they achieved two blue superior ribbons for their cheer and chant, a trophy for having the top team performance in their division, and a trophy for having the game time cheer top performance in their division. They also achieved the overall spirit award which was a megaphone that they can use at their games.
During camp six of the girls were nominated for All-American. The six girls performed in front of the NCA staff for All-American. Gabrielle Martin, Taylor Leidy and Brianna McDermott were able to achieve the points needed to make All-American status.
