Former Bucks County school administrator tops candidates
After a thorough search and interview process, the members of the Upper Perkiomen School Board will be receiving a recommendation, and most likely acting upon it, at their February 9th meeting. The meeting is being held at the Education Center, 2229 East Buck Road in Pennsburg and begins at 7 p.m.
The successful candidate to be named is Elizabeth Hammond Yonson, Ed.D., who most recently served as the Superintendant of the Morrisville School District in Bucks County, Pa.
Hammond Yonson is being considered to fill the post being vacated by Dr. Tim Kirby, superintendent of the Upper Perkiomen School District since 2004. Kirby announced his intended retirement in June of last year, to take effect Jan. 2, 2012, but extended his retirement date until March 10, 2012 at the request of the school board.
Shortly after Kirby’s announced retirement last August, the board initiated a search for candidates to fill the post. With professional services, the board acted as the Search Committee for the effort using focus groups consisting of students, parents and teachers to add input to the search process.
When the list of nominations was whittled down to two, both candidates were brought into the Upper Perkiomen Valley for visits and interviews. The interview process consisted of meetings with the Search Committee as well as interviews with representatives of the school administration, parent and teacher groups.
During her career, Dr. Elizabeth Hammond Yonson taught every grade from six to twelve. She served as an Assistant Principal, Principal and Assistant Director of Curriculum Services for an Intermediate Unit. She served as Assistant Superintendent of Bangor Area School District for four years and was appointed Superintendent of the Morrisville School District in 2005.
She is an adjunct professor at two colleges, served on the Central Bucks School Board for twelve years and in 2010 was inducted as a Distinguished Graduate of Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School.
Hammon Yonson received her Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University and a Master of Science degree from St. Joseph University. She earned her Doctorate from Immaculata University where she was recognized as a “Who’s Who” among Students in America Colleges and Universities.
