Florence Rittenhouse Landes, 87, of Souderton, died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Gwynedd Square Center. She was the wife of the late Herbert M. Rittenhouse, who died in 1991, and the late William Landes, who died in 2009.
Born June 4, 1924 in Sellersville, she was a daughter of the late William and Florence (Stauffer) Hunsberger.
Mrs. Landes was a member of Towamencin Mennonite Church where she was active in the Ladies Sewing Circle. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and putting together puzzles and crafts. Most important to her, however, was the time she spent with her children and families.
She is survived by six children, W. Herbert Rittenhouse and wife Kathleen, of Souderton, Gerald Rittenhouse and wife Elaine, of Harleysville, R. Thomas Rittenhouse and wife Linda, of Sellersville, Tim Rittenhouse and wife Wanda, of Pennsburg, Jane Kratz and husband Harold, of Piedmont, SC, and Gail Horning and husband Kurt, of Sarasota, FL; five step-children, Darlene Hartzell and husband Wayne, of Lansdale, Leslie Landes and wife Miriam, of Orefield, Dennis Landes, of Lansdale, Ivan Landes, of Norristown, Janie Landes, of Dublin; her daughter-in-law, Peggy Landes, of St. Petersburg, FL; 17 grandchildren; six siblings, Robert Hunsberger and wife Frances, Catherine Derstine and husband Kenneth, Ruth Derstine and husband Harold, James Hunsberger and wife Mary, Mary Reinford and husband Floyd, and Dorothy Harris and husband Brent; a sister-in-law, Sara Hunsberger; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, John David Rittenhouse; a step-son, William Gary Landes; a brother, William Hunsberger; and a great-grandson, Christopher Rittenhouse Johenning.
The Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Towamencin Mennonite Church, 1980 Sumneytown Pike, Kulpsville, PA 19443. Relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Plains Mennonite Cemetery.
For those desiring, contributions may be made in Mrs. Landes’s memory to Towamencin Mennonite Church, address above, or Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1648 Huntingdon Pike, Meadowbrook, PA 19046.
Arrangements by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
