Shirley W. Bitting
Shirley W. Bitting, of Souderton and formerly of Perkasie, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011, in Chandler Hall, Newtown. She was 79. She was the wife of Harold Bitting, and the late Raymond R. Brunner, who died in 1988.
Born in Perkasie, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Virginia (Hunsicker) Weber. She was a 1949 graduate of Sell-Perk High School, Perkasie.
A homemaker most of her life, she worked as a secretary for her late father during his tenure as District Justice. Mrs. Bitting was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, Perkasie. She was a long-time member of the Grand View Hospital Auxiliary, having served as the organization’s treasurer. She also served as a Grand View Hospital patient representative and she volunteered with the Pennridge Meals on Wheels Program and the Pennridge FISH Organization.
An avid cook and golfer, Mrs. Bitting was a member and Junior Golf Chairman of the Indian Valley Country Club, Telford.
Surviving, with her husband, are six sons: Eric Brunner and his wife Polly, of Telford, Bruce A. Kirkpatrick and his wife Terri, of West New York, New Jersey, Steven "Jerry" Kirkpatrick and his wife Patti, of Chambersburg, Kenneth W. Kirkpatrick and his wife Kathleen, of Eagleville, Gregory N. Kirkpatrick and his wife, the Reverend Amy, of Schuylkill Haven, and Colin D. Kirkpatrick and his wife Marie, of Quakertown; two daughters, Marcia A. Anderson, of Warrington and Valerie J. Hager and her husband Robert, of Perkasie; two stepsons, Brian Bitting and his wife Caroline, and David Bitting, all of East Greenville; two stepdaughters, Christine Herbst and her husband Robert, of Chester Springs and Jane Lumm and her husband John, of Detroit, Michigan; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a brother, James Weber and his wife Shirley, of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Thomas, and a brother, Richard Weber.
Her funeral services were held Monday, August 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 501 W. Market Street, Perkasie, where family and friends called from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment followed in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Perkasie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chandler Hall Hospice Unit, 99 Barclay Street, Newtown, PA 18940.
