A Quakertown woman was killed after the car she was driving hit another vehicle head-on in the 1000 block of Route 100 in Washington Township Friday.
State police, Reading, said around 1:30 p.m., Amie J. Minnich was south in a car with Michael Fletcher and another passenger, identified as Steven Krajcsir, when the car drifted into the northbound lane and hit another vehicle head-on.
Police said Minnich's vehicle hit a car driven by Dwayne Smith, 52, of Bally.
According to Eastern Berks Fire personnel, firefighters had to extricate people from both vehicles so they could be treated by EMS. Officials said all four people involved in the crash were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment.
Minnich later died at the hospital, according to reports. Officials said Fletcher, 19, of Quakertown, Minnich's son, was still hospitalized as of Sunday and Krajcsir, 24, of Quakertown, was also briefly hospitalized.
State police said Smith suffered a broken leg.
Fire police from Eastern Berks, Boyertown, Hereford and Earl townships diverted traffic for almost two hours while patients were transported and the wreckage was cleared. An investigation into the collision continues.
An Eastern Berks firefighter was also transported to a local medical center for an unspecified condition, according to officials.
