Frances Elizabeth Fuoss

Frances Elizabeth (Arthur) Fuoss (February 12, 1924-December 4, 2004) was a former NC native who had resided in Sacramento, CA since 1971. Frances expired at home after a six year battle with colon cancer. Her survivors included husband, Donald; their only child, Donna Montich, wife of James; grandchildren Brett and Kyle Montich; sister, Pauline Culpepper of VA; and numerous East Coast relatives.

Don and Fran, who have been Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd-Sacramento members since 1971, renewed their 50th wedding anniversary marriage vows in 1995. Frances, a credentialed educational resource specialist, Sacramento City Schools, since 1971, retired in 1992. She acquired an undergraduate degree from Catawba College, NC (1945), where she and Don met in 1942 and were married in 1945. Frances also earned two advanced degrees from Purdue University in 1962 and 1969, and was enrolled in the PhD program when she and Don accepted university positions in Tennessee. Frances taught at several high schools, colleges, and universities before moving to Sacramento where she was an adjunct at California State University Sacramento before commencing her SCUSD full-time tenured teaching experiences.

As per family wishes, Frances was cremated; later ashes will be interred in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Red Hill, PA. There was no public viewing, although on December 10, 2004 a remembrance service was celebrated by family members and friends with Pastor Philip Lee at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Sacramento, CA.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Frances donated to the Frances Fuoss Memorial Fund (Hiram Johnson H. S. graduates studying music at CSUS qualify.), CSUS, 6000 J. St., Sacramento, CA  95819-6079, Attn: CSUS Major Gift's Officer.
