Beatrice S. Berger

Beatrice "Bea" S. (Gebert) Berger, 97, formerly of the Upper Perkiomen

Valley passed from the hands of her loving family to those of our Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2014, while a resident at Dock Woods Community in Lansdale, PA.  She was the wife of the late A. Stanley Berger who died on the same date in 1979.

She was born in Lower Salford, Montgomery County, one of seven children of the late George and Addie (Slemmer) Gebert.  She spent more than half of her life as a resident of Pennsburg and then Red Hill areas.

In addition to helping her husband with his Pennsburg based insurance agency, Bea was an active volunteer through her church and a variety of social and civic organizations.  She was a longtime member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ in East Greenville, PA, where she donated many hours to various initiatives.  She was also active in Meals on Wheels, the Upper Perkiomen Women's Club and the Upper Perkiomen Senior Center.

Bea enjoyed working outdoors, especially in her flower and vegetable gardens.   She loved to fish, swim in the ocean and ride bike.  She was an avid card player who particularly enjoyed Pinochle.  She especially enjoyed people and social interaction.  Her dazzling smile will be missed by the friends and relatives who will remember her lovingly.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Edkins and her husband, Simon of Hatfield, PA; two sons, Scott Berger and his wife, Pat of Tabernash, CO and Darryl Berger and his wife, Vicki of Coopersburg, PA; a grandson, Brad Berger of Boulder, CO; a granddaughter, Sarah Berger of Berkeley, CA; and a sister, Gloria Dry and her husband, Charles of Tyrone, PA.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, two sisters and three brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 24 at New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, 1070 Church Road, East Greenville, with Rev. Dr. Deborah Rahn Clemens officiating.  There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.  Burial will follow in New Goshenhoppen Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA.  Offer condolences to the family on our website at
