Dorothea "Dor" Young, 90, passed away April 6, 2014 at Peter Becker
Community, where she had resided since 1996. She was the wife of the late Charles "Jim" Young, who passed away in 2011. They had formerly lived on Shelly Road in Salfordville for over 40 years.
Born April 8, 1923 in Pennsburg, she was the daughter of the late Garland and Pearl (Derr) Bissey and was a 1940 graduate of Souderton High School. She was employed at the U. S. Gauge as a bookkeeper from 1941 until 1953.
Mrs. Young was a devout Christian and read her Bible daily. She was an active member of Tabor United Methodist Church where she was a founding member of what became The United Methodist Women of Tabor. She was a member of a book club and the Pearls of Wisdom at Peter Becker Community. Mrs. Young knitted caps for newborns and made "Ugly Quilts" (sleeping bags) for the homeless. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, listening to gospel music of the Gaithers, and going on family camping trips. Above all, she cherished time with her family. She was a wonderful mother, but an amazing grandmother.
Surviving are three children, Dorinda Brickner and her husband, Patrick, of Edinboro, and their children, Carlin Brickner and his wife, Mihriban, Colleen Brickner, and Cristin Brickner; Janine Umstead of Yardley, and her fiancé, John Kanavel, and her children, Dan Umstead, and Jessica Brumbaugh and her husband, Matthew; and Jack Young and his wife, Vicki, of Green Lane, and their children, Joshua Young and his wife, Nicole, Sarah Filizzi and her husband, Matt, and Matthew Young. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Bissey, and a great grandson, Aaron Young.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at 11AM on Wed., April 16, at Tabor United Methodist Church, 2209 Hendricks Station Rd., Woxall, PA 18979, with burial following in the adjoining cemetery. Family will receive friends at the viewings on Tues. from 12:30-1:30PM at Peter Becker Community Chapel, 800 Maple Ave., Harleysville, on Tues. evening from 6-8PM at Tabor United Methodist Church, and again at the church on Wed. from 10-10:45AM.
