Montco to Hold Recruitment Open Houses for Correction Officer and Emergency Dispatch Positions
2014-03-19

The Montgomery County Correctional Facility and the Department of Public Safety in conjunction with the county's Department of Human Resources will conduct open houses at their respective facilities on Saturday, March 22, to create a one-stop employment opportunity for those interested in becoming correctional officers or emergency dispatchers.

The Correctional Facility open house will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, while the Public Safety open house will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Both will take place on the Correctional Facility/Public Safety campus at 50/60 Eagleville Road, Eagleville.

"We believe this event will give job applicants an excellent opportunity to investigate and apply for these important, challenging and rewarding positions," said Donna Pardieu, Montgomery County's director of human resources.  Pardieu said the open houses would help the county fill vacancies at the two facilities and create a talent pool for future vacancies.

While the attrition for the two positions in Montgomery County is about half the national average, keeping the positions filled with qualified personnel remains a priority for the county.

Those attending the open houses can receive a tour of the respective facilities, take aptitude tests and be interviewed.  Interested applicants will be able to fill out applications, be fingerprinted and have criminal background checks.

Applicants for both positions must have no criminal convictions, a high school education and a Pennsylvania driver's license or photo identification.  It would be helpful for those applying for the correctional officer position to have a knowledge of corrections and the criminal justice system, problem solving skills and be capable of independent action.

Those applying for the emergency dispatch positions must have computer skills and good communications skills.

The starting salary for the corrections officer positions is $36,752, while an emergency dispatcher's starting salary is $34,788.  Montgomery County also offers a very generous benefits package.
