Thelma Wetzel
2013-07-30

Thelma Brewer Wetzel died on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at her home at the Chestnut Knoll Assisted Living Facility in Boyertown, Pennsylvania.

Thelma Brewer was born on August 5, 1922 near Green Lane, to Russell and Viola Brewer. She attended East Greenville High School, and graduated from West Chester State Teachers College in 1943.  She worked as an English teacher and drama coach in the Central Bucks High School from 1943 through 1956.

She married Jack D. Wetzel in 1954, and they lived in Souderton, PA until his death in 2006. She was an active member of Zwingli U.C.C. and she also served the community as a dedicated volunteer in many organizations, including the Indian Valley SAAC, SAISEC, the Indian Valley Library and Grandview Hospital.  She taught full-time and as a substitute teacher in English and history for the Souderton Area High School during the 1970s.  After her retirement, she spent considerable time researching family genealogy and local history, and she loved to continue learning throughout her lifetime.

Thelma is survived by a sister, Ruth Brewer Bossert, of Lansdale, PA. Her sister Carol Brewer Pierce died in 1997.  Thelma leaves three children, Janet W. Foster, Eric D. Wetzel, and John K. Wetzel and their families, including six grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at Zwingli U.C.C. in Souderton at 4 PM on Sunday August 4, 2013.  Private burial will be at the New Goshenhoppen cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Schwenkfelder Library, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA, 18073.

Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville, PA.
