Steven Green arrives for his arraignment last Friday afternoon after being transported by Upper Perk Police from Lehigh Valley Hospital to District Court in New Hanover Township.
Steven Green, 45, of East Greenville faces a list of serious charges from an incident that occurred around 11:30 p.m. on April 23 at 130 Jeff-erson Street in East Greenville.
Upper Perk Police were called to the apartment that Green shared with Barbara Lloyd, 50. Police allege that Green stabbed Lloyd and then turned the knife on himself. The two have reportedly been involved in a relationship for about 22 years.
According to court rec-ords, Green allegedly stabbed Lloyd in the neck while she was sleeping. Lloyd managed to escape to a neighbor’s apartment. The neighbor, Brenda Williams, called 911.
Police arrived and found Lloyd with lacerations on her face and throat. It was also reported to police that Green was in Apartment 3 stabbing himself.
Police report that Green struggled violently when they tried to take him into custody.
During an earlier interview, Lloyd said there was no dispute between herself and Green that evening and she didn’t know why he attacked her.
“It seems like he just snapped,” she said.
Court documents stated the couple did laundry together, painted, ate dinner and watched movies with one another. Lloyd eventually fell asleep and that is when the attack allegedly took place.
Green and Lloyd were both taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital. Lloyd was treated and released a few days after the incident. Green remained in the hospital for several weeks due to the extent of his injuries.
Reports show that police executed a search warrant for the apartment and found a 9 ½-inch hunting-style knife, covered with blood on the floor in the doorway of the bedroom.
Upper Perk Police transported Green from the Lehigh Valley Hospital last Friday to be arraigned by District Justice Maurice Saylor in New Hanover Township. Bail was set at $200,000 cash. Green was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
Due to his injuries, police were unable to arraign Green prior to last week.
A preliminary hearing in front of District Justice Catherine Hummel-Fried was originally scheduled to be held this past Tuesday, but was continued until next Tuesday.
Green faces charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, using a prohibited offensive weapon, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, resisting arrest, false imprisonment and harassment.
The Upper Perk Police and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office investigated the incident.
