Coffee Shop and Cafe Opens in East Greenville

Mark Gadomski and Ginny Koehn, "partners in grind" as they refer to themselves, sit with some of their homemade cookies inside the new Valley Grind Cafe in East Greenville.
If the aroma of freshly-brewed coffee doesn’t wake you up in the morning, maybe the smell of homemade cinnamon buns or scones will. Or perhaps you prefer the night life and the long, soulful sound of a saxophone.
The Valley Grind Café appeals to something different in everyone.
“It’s a cozy atmosphere here,” said Ginny Koehn, business manager. “People can get a cup of coffee, or in the evenings, listen to free, live music.”
The Main Street, East Greenville eatery held their grand opening Jan. 15 and 16.
It features gourmet coffees and teas, lattes, cappucino, chai and frappes. Customers can get a warmed mug, with premium coffee, for $1.25. Refills are free.
The Valley Grind sells One Village coffees, a fair trade coffee, ground or whole bean. They also serve breakfast and lunch sandwiches, smoothies, salads and ice cream.
Everything on the menu is made fresh, to order. Koehn, a Kansas native, said she appreciates the small-town atmosphere of the shop. She used to run a successful gourmet coffee and foods store in Epharta.
But the cafe’s claim to fame may be her homemade soups. Although she couldn’t count all the varieties she makes, ham and bean, cream of broccoli, split pea and creamy turkey all make regular appearances.
“People love our soups,” she said, noting they don’t contain additives like salt. “They go out of here by the quart.”
In addition to their food and drink offerings, the Valley Grind is also a destination for those who appreciate music and the arts. The photography and paintings of local artists decorate the walls. The rear of the shop is set up with seating to host musicians of all styles and genres as well as poetry readings.
“This is something I have wanted to do for years,” said owner Mark Gadomski. “It gives people something to do. They can kick back, relax and enjoy themselves.”
A calendar of events is available on the cafe’s web site, www.thevalleygrindcafe.com. A large parking area is available in the rear of the shop.
The café, which also hosts parties like birthday and baby showers after regular business hours, is also a free Wi-Fi spot.
The Valley Grind Café is open Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. For more information on the café, located at 321 Main Street, East Greenville, visit their web site or call (215)679-6633.
